Lulworth Carehome
Lulworth, in Maidstone, Kent, has taken a major step towards reducing its reliance on grid electricity by installing a rooftop solar PV and battery storage system. The new 38.72 kWp array is designed to generate around 33,701 kWh of clean electricity every year, supplying roughly 20% of the site’s annual demand. By using almost all of this solar power on site, Lulworth can reduce exposure to volatile energy costs while cutting its carbon footprint in line with long-term sustainability goals.
Lifetime Savings: £268,887

System overview
The Lulworth system uses 88 Jinko Tiger Neo 440 W N-type all-black mono solar panels, mounted across suitable roof areas to capture solar energy throughout the day. These panels feed into a 50 kW SolarEdge Synergy three-phase inverter, providing high-efficiency DC-to-AC conversion with panel-level optimisation and monitoring.
To maximise on-site use of solar generation, the PV system is paired with a Fox ESS AC3 10 kW three-phase AC-coupled inverter and 20.7 kWh of usable battery storage, delivered via two Fox ESS EP11-H 10.36 kWh Li-ion battery modules. This allows surplus daytime generation to be stored and used later in the day or overnight, improving self-consumption and reducing grid imports even when the sun isn’t shining.
Performance Factors
Energy modelling for the site shows that the 38.72 kWp system will generate approximately 33,701 kWh per year, against an annual electricity demand of around 170,621 kWh. This means the PV and battery system is expected to cover about 20% of Lulworth’s yearly electricity use.

Thanks to the integration of battery storage and careful load matching, more than 99% of the solar energy produced is expected to be used on site, with only a very small amount exported to the grid. A significant proportion of this generation is consumed directly as it’s produced, while the battery captures additional surplus to support evening and night-time loads.

Overall, this gives Lulworth around 19% grid independence, providing a meaningful buffer against rising and unpredictable electricity prices.
